Closed-loop plastic recycling
A closed loop is only closed if the material comes back. A great deal of what is sold as closed-loop recycling in the UK is an export arrangement with a certificate attached: the material leaves, a document arrives, and nobody involved could tell you where it ended up. We reprocess within the UK and return the resin.
- Input
- Post-industrial production scrap, single polymer
- Reprocessed
- Within the UK, not exported
- Returned as
- Regrind or pellet, back to your line
- Indicative price
- Within a few days; firm after a sample
- Traceability
- Every batch traceable to source
How the loop works
Production waste (off-cuts, purgings, start-up waste, reject mouldings, edge trim) is collected from your site, sorted and reprocessed into regrind or pellet, and supplied back to you as feedstock. Where your own line cannot take the returned grade, we place it with a UK reprocessor or converter who can, and net the value back to you.
Because the input is post-industrial and single-source, the output is far more consistent than anything drawn from a mixed post-consumer stream. You know the polymer, the grade, the colour and the additive package, because you bought it in the first place.
Why UK reprocessing matters now
Export markets have been tightening for years, and the reliability of an outlet is now worth as much as its price. A domestic loop is shorter, cheaper to move material through, easier to audit, and far less exposed to a single port or a single overseas policy change.
It also supports the recycled content you may shortly be obliged to demonstrate. Material reprocessed and consumed in the UK is straightforward to evidence; material that has left the country is not.
What we need to price it
Polymer and grade, approximate monthly tonnage, current form (baled, boxed, loose, on reels), contamination profile, and what you are currently paid or charged for it. From that we can usually give an indicative position within a few days, and a firm one after a sample.
“A closed loop is only closed if the material comes back.”
What you end up holding
- 01A disposal cost converted into a feedstock line
- 02Consistent grade, colour and additive package, because you bought it first
- 03A domestic outlet that is not exposed to a single port or policy change
- 04Recycled content you can actually evidence
Common questions about Closed-loop recycling
What contamination level can you accept?+
It depends on the polymer and the intended outlet. Clean single-polymer production scrap is straightforward. Mixed-polymer, heavily printed, metallised or labelled material narrows the outlets and changes the price, but rarely rules it out. Tell us what it is and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth moving.
Can you handle regrind we produce ourselves?+
Yes, and it is usually worth more than baled or loose material because we are paying for a processed product rather than the cost of processing it. If you are granulating on site already, that is a strong starting position.
Do you provide technical data sheets for returned material?+
Yes. TDS and samples are supplied before any trial, and every batch is traceable back to source. See recycled polymer supply for the wider grade range.

Find out what your waste is actually worth
Tell us what you make and roughly what leaves site. We will tell you whether an audit is worth your time before either of us spends any, and if it isn’t, we will say so.
